Copa America 2011: Sergio Aguero score two goals, Messi assisted two goals, Video highlights

Sergio Aguero scored two goals for Argentina to book a place in Copa America quarter-finals. The Atletico Madrid striker scored on 45th min and 52nd minutes before Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria sealed victory in the 63rd minute. Barcelona’s star; Lionel Messi feed Aguero and Di Maria for second and third goals respectively and created many chances for his team mates. In Group A winners Argentina and Colombia progress to last eight and Costa will wait for results from other game to go their way for two best third placed teams. Argentina will now meet team from Group C, it could be Chile, Uruguay or Peru - while Costa Rica could still progress in third if other results go their way.

"We played very, very well. We scored the goal we had needed in the previous match, but the most important thing is that we played great football tonight."

Sergio Batista changes

The manager made 4 changes in starting line-up dropping Ever Banega, Esteban Cambiasso, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Carlos Tevez for Fernando Gago, Di Maria, Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain. Batista is very delighted with Lionel Messi performance and especially the two assist.

Premier league: Arsenal confirm the signing of Gervinho, Lille striker

Arsene Wenger has confirmed the signing of Ivorian Lille striker Gervinho from Lille. Gervinho scored 15 goals and assisted 10 in league one and played a major role in Lille title win, the first in 57 years and Cup double. Gervinho became the second player to arrive at Emirates club after signing of full-back Carl Jenkinson from Charlton Athletic. Wenger also intend to keep Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri at Emirates.

The Ivorian International had played for Beveren 2005-2007 (61 games, 14 goals), Le Mans 2007-2009 (59 games, 9 goals) and Lille 2009-2011 (67 games, 28 goals) during his senior career. He caped 27 games and scored 6 at Côte d'Ivoire national teams.

Gervinho became the tenth Ivorian in Premier league, joining Emmanuel Eboue (Arsenal), Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou (Chelsea), Abdul Razak, Kolo Toure and Yaya Toure (Manchester City, Cheik Ismael Tiote (Newcastle), Abdoulaye Meite (Westbromwich Albion) and Steve Gohouri (Wigan). US soccer: David Beckham scored a winning goal directly from the corner kick

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder, David Beckham scored a winning goal from a corner kick with the right swing in the 2-1 win against Chicago Fire. Before, Landon Donovan scored the opener from Beckham’s corner kick in 58th minute. Cristian Nazarith equalised for Chicago fire in the 62nd minute a header. The win fired LA Galaxy to five points clear at the top of the Western Conference.

In interview after the game, Beckham said
“I saw the goalie cheating a little out of goal and saw a gap,” Beckham said after the game. “I knew if I put it in area, it was going to get a touch off somebody or go straight in. Luckily, it went straight in.” Source: Beckham goal

Top ten scorers in Europe leagues in 2010 - 2011 ranked according to country coefficient comprises of 17 goals scorers. Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid striker scored 40 goals and earned 80 golden shoe points according to league ranking on UEFA coefficients to win the Golden shoe award given by European Sports Magazines. UEFA coefficient of the league depends on perfomance of clubs in that league in UEFA competitions in previous five seasons. Goals scored in top five leagues (Premier league, La Liga, Serie A, League 1, Dutch Eredivisie) are multiplied by two, and those in other European league are multiplied by 1.5.

Golden shoe award went through 3 different eras.
1968-1991
It was given to any top scorer in European league regardless of toughness of the league. During this era Dudu Georgescu of Dinamo Bucharest in Romanian Divizia A scored 47, more that any other top scorers in this era.The ward was given by L'Équipe magazine.

1991-1996
The award giving was unofficial, by Adidas continued to provide the award. In this short era Zviad Endeladze of Margveti in Georgian Umaglesi Liga scored a 40, highest in this era.

1996-present
The European Sports Magazines have given the award basing on UEFA coefficients. Mário Jardel playing for Sporting CP in Portuguese Primeira Liga scored most goals, 42. Based on UEFA coefficient Cristiano Ronaldo scored 40 goals to earn 80 golden shoe points, more than any other top scorer so far. Cristiano Ronaldo also joined the list of top scorers who have won the award twice, others are Gerd Müller (Germany), Eusébio (Portugal)Dudu Georgescu (Romania, Fernando Gomes (Portugal) Ally McCoist (Scotland), Mário Jardel (Brazil), Thierry Henry (France), Diego Forlán (Uruguay), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
